Promoting English learning atmosphere
The plans, policies and projects formulated for the new academic year have vanished into thin air because of Covid-19. However, our school still holds a strong belief, hope, and persistence in education to overcome the limitations under the pandemic, developing innovative and creative learning modes that benefit students.
We would like to share one of our school's significant developments: Promoting an English learning atmosphere.
Original plans |
Plans for the New Normal |
Utilize English Garden, Buddy Room, and Reading Corner to promote English reading |
EPIC! and Read with Mr Men, two online reading platforms installed on students' iPad, interface with the school's reading strategy, providing tens of thousands of English books for students to choose the material they wanted to read according to their levels and preferences. They can also do the practices after reading. Our teacher can review students' reading ability and performance through the system and provide appropriate feedback to improve their English and enhance their interest.

Diversified English classes in the afternoon Different interest learning activities using EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) |
Now only half-day classes (Online classes) can be provided. However, our school will not ignore the life-wide learning sessions in the afternoon. Last Christmas, the English team has organized a diversified, thematic learning activity encouraging students to listen and speak more English. We will introduce more festival-related English learning activities, including Chinese New Year and Easter, soon. Moreover, we will recommend various online videos of interest activities (English as a Medium of Instruction) such as handicraft, scientific experiments, and art to students to learn daily English through different aspects. For details, please refer to the attached publications.(Christmas English Zoom Activity) |
English activities during recess and lunchtime |
Online English assembly and U.S. Vlog was substituted for cross-level face-to-face activities that were not allowed at this stage. Different themes will be shared in assembly every month, and students are invited to give weather reports, Bible readings, and The Lord's Prayer readings in English. Also, we will launch an English Christian Song (Song of the Month) each month to stimulate their interests and motivation in learning English. Our former English teacher who has moved to the United States will host the U.S. Vlog. She will upload photos and videos sharing daily life and customs and traditions in the U.S. through this blog. Students can get a taste of American life and learn English simultaneously, embracing and experiencing cross-cultural learning.

English learning under the New Normal situation |
The school will release a series of inventive English e-learning solutions, including English AI-Powered Auto-dictation Platform, Learning Management System providing listening, speaking, reading, writing exercises, school-based English electronic teaching materials with Augmented Reality technology applied, and board games to break away from traditional frameworks. With multiple learning platforms, we hope to enhance the students' self-directed learning ability, arouse their interest in learning English and alleviate the parents' burden in revision.
