Learning and Teaching – Whole-person Development and Lifelong Learning

Striving to provide quality Christian education for every student, we nurture students with a curriculum across different learning fields, a diversified learning experience, a strong reading atmosphere, and assessments to facilitate learning. The spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, social, and aesthetic education of students can achieve balanced development in accordance with the mission of holistic Christian education. Thus, they can serve people and contribute to society.

1.Diversified School-based Curriculum

The school formulates featured school-based curriculum according to the curriculum guides and policies of the Aims of Education, the Curriculum Development Council and the Education Bureau. A diversified school-based curriculum includes a School-based Literacy Programme for Chinese Language, PTH Pinyin Course, Read Write INC. Phonics Programme for the English Language, Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Programme for Mathematics, Scientific Inquiry Programme for General Studies, STEM Education, and Computational Thinking Programme.

2.Facilitate Students’ Self-directed Learning Ability

Self-directed learning is a must-have competence for students in the 21st century. In the “Basic Education Curriculum Guide - To Sustain, Deepen and Focus on Learning to Learn (Primary 1 - 6)”, the Education Bureau stated that self-directed learning is an umbrella notion related to self-regulated learning, self-learning and independent learning. This year the school continued to deepen “Self-directed Learning”, focusing on students leveraging appropriate self-learning strategies for lesson preparation and extended learning. Through self-monitoring and reflection, students can enhance their learning effectiveness and steer their journey of self-directed learning.

Developing students’ capability of self-directed learning is the primary goal of our curriculum. We provide guidance to students on ways of how to achieve self-directed learning. By establishing their learning targets, they can choose appropriate learning methods, track the learning process, make revisions accordingly, and finally evaluate their learning results and conduct self-reflection. Students can notice their improvements through conducting self-reflections and can further enhance their learning effectiveness. Self-directed learning would be a lifelong benefit for students when they pursue further studies in the future.

3.Effective Use of Assessment Data for Quality Learning and Teaching

Our school continues to optimize our curriculum and make effective use of assessment data for quality learning and teaching. This year, we utilize the Assessment Quality-assurance Platform (AQP), an automated web-based system developed by the HKEAA. AQP makes use of modern assessment technologies to analyse test items to ensure their quality. AQP analyses students’ response and calculate different statistical indicators. Teachers can use the indicators to identify the specific learning needs of different students and adjust the learning and teaching accordingly, making ‘Assessment for Learning’ an actual practice. The statistical indicators may also help teachers find out problematic items or papers to improve test design in the future. To conclude, AQP is a powerful tool for schools to enhance their assessment quality.
